Subject: Letter of Support

Dear MP/Congressman/Representative,

I write concerning the development of Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish’s civil case where, as a father, he is seeking justice for the loss of life of his three daughters and niece during the Gaza War of 2009.

During the conflict, much of the world, including Canada, watched helplessly. The assault on Gaza resulted in his three daughters and niece being killed when an Israeli tank fired directly at their home.

Dr. Abuelaish recalls, We are standing in the scene of the tragedy, in the place where four lovely girls were sitting, building their dreams and their hopes, and in seconds, these dreams were killed.”

Since this tragedy, Dr. Abuelaish has worked hard to promote reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. Following Dr. Abuelaish relocation to Canada, he told his story in his book “I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor’s Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity”.

He resettled to Canada with his surviving children. He continues to promote peace and inclusion for all people.

In 2010 Dr. Abuelaish commenced a civil action involving the Israeli government for a formal apology for this tragedy. According to Dr. Abuelaish it’s about “people and their lives, not politics”. The trial will be heard in March, 2017 in Israel and any funds awarded as a result will be directed to the Daughters for Life Foundation, a registered Canadian Charity established in the memory of Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish three daughters and niece.

I am requesting that the government of Canada send a letter to the Government of Israel supporting Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish’s request for an apology in his civil involving the Government of Israel.
